After failing to win the bidding for hosting the Winter Olympics Games twice, South Korea left no stone unturned to unsure they win it in their third attempt. As soon as they won the bidding back in July 2011, preparations kick-started in the city of Pyeongchang. Just a month later, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the formation of Pyeongchang 2018 Coordination Commission. Kim Jin-Sun was handed over the supervisory role of the committee. Within one year, construction of a high-speed rail line was also underway for connecting Pyeongchang with Seoul.

Time and Venue
A separate venue, the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium, has been designed exclusively for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Olympics. This stadium will be able to host around 35,000 people. The opening ceremony is scheduled to kick start at 20:00 KST (local time) at the same venue, Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.
What To Expect?
The opening ceremony will focus more on putting on display the Korean Cultural heritage. It will kick start with the Torch Relay coming to an end followed by a slurry of performances from local and international stars. Performances will be centred around K-Pop is what the committee has indicated so far. The committee stated that one their primary aims is to promote Hallyu, one of the most popular aspects of Korean Culture, through the Olympics. A glimpse of all that was given at the Countdown ceremony which was held back in February 2017 at the Gangneung Hockey Arena.
Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies have been kept at a slightly higher price tag. The tickets for the opening ceremony will range from ₩220,000 ($190) to ₩1.5 million ($1293). These ticket prices are only for the residents of South Korea. Ticket packages for foreign fans haven’t been made available yet.
